Royal Park Rajapruek

Royal Park Rajapruek is a natural park in Chiang Mai which was built in 2006 to commemorate 60 years since the then King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s acceded to the throne.

Today, the park is used as a public park and is an important location for agricultural research in Chiang Mai.

The park spans around 200 acres, making it virtually impossible to traverse this vast park on foot. For this reason, the management of the park has provided a free tram service that takes you around to the most beautiful places in the park The tram comes past each stop every 15 minutes and continuously travels around the park all day. The designated bus stops are signed (image below).

If you are interested in getting around the park on your own, there are bikes for hire. Simply pay the fee of 60 THB per bike and enjoy the fresh air in the outdoor park. Most of the park is flat, has asphalted bike lanes and only has slight inclines, which makes it very easy to ride around. If you want, you could hire a golf cart and you will be provided with a cart that can seat 4 people and a driver to get you around the park. This options costs 800 THB per hour.

The gardens are broken up into manageable sections including the Thai Tropical Garden which consists of a greenhouse that showcases the diversity of Thai tropical plants; Gardens for the King which is the government managed agricultural area, the Orchid Garden; and the International Garden Zone which has plants from 33 other nations.

There are many things to do and activities to indulge in at the Royal Park Rajapruek. It is also an ideal place for a picnic. Make sure you carry a hat, splash some sun screen and sip lots of water during the hot days.

You can get to the park via a scooter, the park is right near the Chaing Mai night safari. You can also take a red truck (songthaew) for only 150 THB each way.
