Wat Ku Tao

Wat Ku Tao, also known as Wat Welu Wanaram, is temple located north of the Chiang Mai old city, whose ancient roots and rich history make it a treasured place of worship for the Thai people.

The temple is believed to have been constructed in the early 17th century which is reflected in the unique architectural style used in the construction of the chedi.

History points to the importance of the temple as the home to the ashes of a Burmese Prince.

The overall design of the pagoda is believed to have been influenced by Chinese locals who interacted with the locals through trade routes in Asia. There is a main hall located here which is built over two floors and is one of the largest in Chiang Mai.

The temple is not as crowded as more popular sacred spaces in Thailand, so you will be able to enjoy the tranquillity of the temple grounds. The temple is only a five minute walk from the Chang Pruek bus station, or you can catch a red truck here from the old city for around 20 THB.

As with all temples in Thailand, visitors must ensure they are dressed respectfully. This includes covering knees, shoulders and midriffs.
