Huay Kaew Waterfall

Huay Kaew Waterfall is a great place for visitors who don’t have a lot of time in Chiang Mai and want to see a waterfall that is close to town.

Huay Kaew Waterfall is located near the Chiang Mai Zoo, just 100 metres from the base of Doi Suthep Mountain.

Huay Keaw Waterfall, Hike & Trek Doi Suthep Chiang Mai, Thailand

The walk only takes around 10 minutes and is surrounded by lush, green jungle and a peaceful setting. Take a picnic with you and enjoy lunch in the shade of the trees as there are plenty of rocks to sit on and dip your feet in the water.

There are also some food stalls located at the entrance to the falls where you can grab an authentic Thai lunch or a cold drink.

For those wanting to see a nice view, head up a little further (around 25-minute hike) where you can look out over a cliff to see Chiang Mai. The path can be slippery, so it is best to wear sturdy shoes such as runners or hiking boots.

The best time to visit the falls is during the wet season from July to October when the water flow will be at its strongest. November through to January is also a good time to visit, but avoid the hot dry season between March and June as the water will be a mere trickle.
