Chang Puak Bus Station

Chang Puak Bus Station (sometimes referred to as terminal 1) is the local bus that services the Chiang Mai Province.

Not to be confused with Arcade Bus Station, Chiang Puak Bus Station is located just 600 metres north of the Chang Puak gate to the old city and can be reached with any red truck (songthaew) for just 20 THB.

Chang Puak Bus Station Schedule, Location & Map, Chiang Mai Thailand

Chang Puak Bus Station is much smaller than the Arcade Bus Station which is located to the east of the old city. Chang Puak Station primarily services the other districts within Chiang Mai province itself including Mae Rim, Chiang Dao, Fang, Tha Ton, Phrao, Hot, Chom Thong and Doi Tao. In contrast, the Arcade Bus Station services those travelling to Chiang Rai, Bangkok and beyond. Both bus stations service travellers heading to Pai.

There are two main types of transport departing the station which are the private (or VIP) air-conditioned minibuses and the orange, fan only, government buses.

There is a ticket counter located in the centre of the terminal where you can purchase your tickets. There is no need to book far in advance, but during the peak seasons (November – February) tickets can sell out. Best to get there an hour early if possible.

There is a seating area located inside the terminal at both ends, although there aren’t that many seats for travellers. There are toilets which can be used for 3 THB and toilet paper must be purchased for a small cost. You can also find snacks and cold beverages for sale, although the selection is limited.

You can get to the Chang Puak Bus Station by taking a red truck (songthaew) from anywhere in the old city for just 20 THB. Alternatively, if you are located close to the north gate, you can simply walk 600 metres up Changpuak Road.
