The Nimmanhaemin Art & Design Promenade (often called “NAP” by locals) is one of Chiang Mai’s most creative open-air cultural events, celebrating the city’s design talent, handmade craftsmanship, and relaxed arts district lifestyle.
Held annually along Nimmanhaemin Soi 1, this boutique street festival transforms the neighbourhood into a walkway of artist studios, craft houses, pop-up galleries, and independent stalls showcasing ceramics, textiles, woodwork, jewellery, illustration, and contemporary Lanna design.
Nimmanhaemin Arts and Crafts Fair 2026, Nimman Soi 1, Chiang Mai
The festival has been around for over a decade, and its success is a testament to the raw artistic talent of the locals. Held during the first week of December, the event is perfect for the whole family.Unlike larger commercial fairs, NAP retains an intimate, artistic feel. Many of the stalls are run by the artists or makers themselves, giving visitors the chance to learn about the craft process, inspiration, materials, and local traditions behind each piece. Handmade items dominate the promenade, reflecting Chiang Mai’s reputation as Thailand’s creative capital. You’ll also find fashion by local designers, slow-crafted home décor, minimalist design pieces, and sustainable lifestyle goods that reflect modern Northern Thai aesthetics.
The atmosphere is relaxed and warmly communal. Live acoustic music flows through shaded laneways, small courtyards host workshops and demonstrations, and nearby cafés extend their seating onto the street to create a casual festival ambience.
Street food vendors offer local snacks, artisanal coffee, and desserts, while boutique design shops and studio galleries open late into the evening.
One of the promenade’s biggest appeals is its blend of tradition and innovation. Artists draw inspiration from Lanna heritage but reinterpret it through contemporary art, modern materials, and new techniques. It feels less like a marketplace and more like an evolving outdoor gallery – a space where creativity is lived rather than just displayed.
For travellers, NAP is a rewarding alternative to typical tourist markets, offering authentic craft culture, creative interaction, and a glimpse into Chiang Mai’s thriving local design scene.
Whether you’re browsing for keepsakes, discovering new artists, or simply soaking in the neighbourhood’s charm after sunset, the Nimmanhaemin Art & Design Promenade captures the artistic spirit that sets Chiang Mai apart.
