Best Waterfalls Near Chiang Mai, Pai & Chiang Rai, Thailand

Some of the waterfalls close to Chiang Mai include Mae Sa Waterfall, Huay Kaew Waterfall and just a little further out is Bua Thong Waterfalls (Sticky Waterfalls).

Mae Sa Waterfall is one of Thailand’s premier tourist attractions and is best known for its magnificent waterfalls amid the gorgeous natural landscape. The waterfalls are located about 27 kilometres north-west from Chiang Mai and you can get there by following the signage on Mae Rim-Samoeng Road. Huay Kaew Waterfall is a great place for visitors who don’t have a lot of time in Chiang Mai as it is located near the Chiang Mai Zoo, just 100 metres from the base of Doi Suthep Mountain.

The Bua Thong Waterfalls is a unique attraction as the waterfalls are referred to as “sticky” because the rocks underneath aren’t slippery. In fact, one of the fun things to do at the waterfall is to climb up them!

If heading up north, make sure to check out Mae Yen Waterfall in Pai and Khun Korn Waterfall in Chiang Rai. There are so many waterfalls in the surrounding mountains, so click the links below to explore all the waterfalls in and around Chiang Mai.
