Chiang Mai Museums

The museums in Chiang Mai are wide and varied, with many detailing the history of the Lanna Kingdom, while others teach about a specific topic.

Many of the museums are located just a few kilometres from the old city of Chiang Mai, whilst others are spread out over other parks of northern Thailand in Chiang Rai and beyond.

History, Insect & Art Museums in Chiang Mai, Thailand

For the most detailed look into the history of Chiang Mai, visitors should visit the Chiang Mai National Museum. Here you will find artefacts from the Lanna Kingdom as well as memorabilia collected from other kingdoms in the northern region.

If heading up to Chiang Rai, make sure to check out the Oub Kham Museum which is home to a diverse range of memorabilia from across the former Lanna Kingdom. In addition to these collectables from the kingdom, the unique museum also houses artefacts and paraphernalia that were used by an ethnic group known as the Tai. Also in Chiang Rai is Mae Fah Luang which is a blended museum, park and garden which is home to the largest exhibit of artefacts from the Lanna cultural system.

Back in Chiang Mai, the Museum Of World Insects and Natural Wonders is an interesting visit for those interested in insects and the Chiang Mai University Art Museum is great for those interested in art.
