Lampang Airport

Lampang Airport is a small domestic airport serving Lampang city in northern Thailand. Its passenger code is LPT, and its location close to the city makes it useful for a Lampang stay or an onward road journey towards Chiang Mai.

It is a separate airport from Chiang Mai’s CNX. Compare the flight and ground-transfer arrangements together before booking: a convenient airfare does not remove the journey between Lampang and your final destination.

Flights and choosing the right Bangkok airport

Bangkok Airways serves Lampang from Suvarnabhumi Airport, while Thai AirAsia offers the Don Mueang route. These Bangkok airports have different codes, BKK and DMK, and are not interchangeable when making an onward connection.

Check the selected date’s timetable and baggage allowance before paying. Domestic services can change by season, and the flight number and airport on your confirmation should determine your plans. Avoid arranging a tight onward booking around an assumed daily departure time.

If changing airports in Bangkok, allow for collecting luggage, the road transfer and the next check-in deadline. If continuing on a separate ticket at the same airport, confirm whether baggage must be collected and checked in again. Those practical details matter more than the airborne flight time alone.

Flight Lampang - Bangkok ฿ 2,759 1h 35m

Flight Lampang - Sukhothai ฿ 2,428 6h 20m – 6h 50m

Using the passenger terminal

The compact terminal is easier to navigate than a large international hub, but passengers still need time for check-in, baggage and security. Follow your airline’s recommended arrival time and its separate bag-drop deadline; the size of the building does not change those requirements.

Plan for limited food and shopping choices. A snack or coffee can be useful while waiting, but eat beforehand if you need a full meal and carry anything essential for children or a long onward journey. Confirm assistance with the airline before travel if you need help moving through the terminal or boarding.

Terminal services follow flight operations. Check access before arriving very early or planning an overnight wait, and keep the airline’s contact and flight notification available in case the schedule changes.

Transfers into Lampang and towards Chiang Mai

The airport is at 175 Sanambin 1 Road in Phrabat, approximately two kilometres south of central Lampang. An arranged hotel transfer or taxi provides a straightforward way to reach accommodation. Car rental is listed at the airport; book ahead if you need a particular vehicle or a collection outside ordinary desk hours.

If continuing to Chiang Mai, the road journey is roughly 100 kilometres, generally via Highway 11 through the Lamphun and Khun Tan area. Allow around one and a half to two hours of driving, with extra time for traffic, stops and finding your final address. Arrange the transfer before landing if you have a time-sensitive connection.

Bus and train travel between Lampang and Chiang Mai involve separate city boarding points. You will need a local transfer from the airport to the bus terminal or Nakhon Lampang railway station, as well as the intercity ticket. Compare that complete journey with a direct car transfer rather than assuming a bus or train leaves from the airport.

Lampang Airport FAQs

What is the airport code?
Lampang uses LPT for passenger bookings. Chiang Mai Airport is CNX, so check the code carefully when comparing flights and arranging accommodation transfers.

Which Bangkok airport should I use?
Bangkok Airways serves Suvarnabhumi, BKK, while Thai AirAsia offers Don Mueang, DMK. Read your actual booking and allow a separate road transfer if an onward flight uses the other airport.

Is Lampang Airport open for an overnight stay?
Do not plan an overnight wait without confirming terminal access. Passenger services follow flight operations, and an early departure should be planned around the airline’s recommended arrival and check-in times.

How far is it from Chiang Mai?
The airport is roughly 100 kilometres from Chiang Mai by road. Allow around one and a half to two hours of driving plus time for traffic and your final destination, and arrange a vehicle in advance when timing matters.

Can I take a train directly from the airport?
Rail services use Nakhon Lampang station in the city rather than an airport platform. Arrange the local transfer and check the train timetable before choosing rail for the onward journey.
