Monfai Culture House

Monfai is an excellent destination in Chiang Mai for anyone who wants to learn more about the Lanna culture.

Located on Patan Road, this beautiful place is made with traditional wooden Lanna architecture and has lots of attractions and interesting discoveries waiting to be made inside.

Before Chiang Mai came to be, it was the seat of the Lanna kingdom for many centuries. This is what gives Chiang Mai so much of its present-day culture and traditions, and it’s worth coming to this cultural centre to learn more about it.

Even though the city has dozens of museums, this is different: it was built by Rampad Kotkaew with the intention of turning it into a living museum. What you see in the museum today may be different from what you see in the future, because the museum continually strives to improve the artefacts that Rampad has collected over the years and put them on display.

Not only can visitors come here to marvel at the incredible displays, but it can also be used as a venue for corporate functions, weddings, birthday parties, and school programs. It is a holistic cultural experience and one that you won’t forget.

Monfai also has a charming little homestay for visitors who want to immerse in Lanna hospitality. You get to sleep in traditional beds in a beautiful teak home; designed with a style that is true to the Lanna character. A restaurant and cafe serve local delicacies at affordable prices. They also have the biggest collection of Lanna costumes, where you can see stunning textiles and the clothing that was used in the past.

If you come for afternoon tea, the friendly staff will help you find a suitable costume for you to play dress up in, while sipping on a drink. This experience will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
