Directions to Bua Thong Waterfalls (Sticky Waterfalls) from Chiang Mai, Map

To get to the sticky waterfalls, you can take a car or scooter. A ride on the scooter is safe as the trip is on sealed roads the whole way and directions are fairly easy to follow as there are only a few turns along the way. It is probably not wise for inexperienced riders though, as you will be travelling at speeds between 60-80kph the whole way. Simply put “Bua Thong Waterfalls” or “Sticky Waterfalls” into your GPS as the directions are accurate.

On your ride, you will pass through some towns with petrol stations and 7/11, so it is easy to find a place to take a break and grab a drink or some petrol.

Upon your arrival, there is a car park for your scooter and there is a little shop selling ice-creams and drinks on your right. Walk straight and you will see a sign pointing down to your right where you can access the base of the falls. There are approximately 50 steps down of varying heights, but it is an easy walk down.

From here, you can simply walk into the pools at the base of the falls. The water is cool and clean and surprisingly free of rubbish (no food is permitted to be taken near the falls which eliminate the rubbish issue).

For those with an adventurous streak, grab one of the ropes and climb your way to the top! The rocks have a grip like feel to them which means that you can climb up the rocks without slipping. Just make sure to empty your pockets before climbing because you will get wet!

You will see many Thai families coming here with picnics, although the waterfalls aren’t yet congested with busloads of tourists. All the more reason to visit the Bua Thong Waterfalls on your next trip to Chiang Mai!
