Phayao

Phayao is a quiet city tucked away in the expansive northern region of Thailand, a place that remains relatively undeveloped.

This laid back city is hidden from the glare of the tourism lens, yet is home to some of the most beautiful natural attractions in northern-Thailand.

During your visit, make some time to visit Wat Analayo Thipphayaram which has a beautiful tropical garden and is filled with many Buddha relics. Also make sure to check out the sunken wat in the middle of the lake known as Wat Tilok Aram. A small boat will take you there from the jetty on the lake and it only costs around 40 THB per person.

For those interested in history, check out the Phayao Cultural Exhibition Hall which houses exhibits from Phayo’s long history. The museum opened in 1995 and includes dinosaur fossils and information on historic figures.

There is also a night bazaar held in town every Saturday evening between 6-11pm which sells a range of handmade goods, souvenirs and food. You can also get a foot massage around the market area with massages ranging between about 150-200 THB per hour.

There are plenty of unique temples located around Phayao as well as waterfalls and hiking trails. If you are interested in staying in this region, there are plenty of hotels, guest houses and resorts available. Click the link below to browse the range of accommodation options available.
