Chiang Saen is one of the prominent towns located in north Thailand and a favourite for adventure-travellers. This laid-back destination is a must-visit.

The town’s roots can be traced to the early 7th century when the town was the location of a Thai Kingdom. The remains of this kingdom present are best seen in the relics that dot the town. The architectural works are in ruin, but this somehow does not take away the charm of this ruined town.

Speaking of history, a visit to Chiang Saen National Museum is yet another highlight of the time spent in the ancient city. The museum is home to a wide array of archaeological exhibits which will give you deep insight into the city’s past. The museum is open between Wednesday to Sunday, from 9am to 4pm.

Other attractions include the Songkran Festival, the vibrant traditional markets as well as the famous boat races. Accommodation in the city itself is limited, but if you head to the Golden Triangle, it should be easier to get great accommodation options.

Chiang Saen is a delightful travel destination, so you want to spend a few days here to immerse yourself completely into Thailand’s culture.
