Chang Mai Woman Correctional Institution Massage

The Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institution is a women’s only prison which trains inmates with valuable skills; such as learning how to give a massage, as well as customer service and hospitality jobs.

The purpose of the organization is to provide the women with the skills they need to find a job after leaving prison.

Chang Mai Woman Correctional Institution Massage Hours & Address

Found in the centre of Chiang Mai’s old city near the Three Kings Monument, the institution has clearly been doing a good job because all the inmates are well-behaved and act professionally. A vocational training centre is located right across the prison, a wooden building designed in traditional Lanna style. Only a few female security guards roam the areas, to ensure safety at all times, however, emergencies rarely ever do happen.

What makes this place unique is that tourists can play a part in giving the inmates a second chance, by volunteering as customers for them to practice their massages on, and only paying a cheap price. Feel free to give them tips as well, which they save up to use for their release. The inmates give terrific massages, which is not surprising considering their intensive training. It’s a win-win situation: you get to enjoy a traditional Thai massage while helping women in their job-training rehabilitation.

In fact, Chiang Mai’s countless massage shops are aware of the quality of training that the women get. This is why they actively recruit women who have just been released. Many of them even have official agreements with the institution to help them hire the best graduates. After you get a massage, check out the café right next door – it’s the perfect spot for sipping a brew post-massage.
