Malin Plaza

The Malin Plaza market is one of the best markets in Chiang Mai.

Although the city already has the famous Walking Street markets and many others, this one is still worth visiting especially if you’re on a budget but want to shop for inexpensive goods.

Malin Plaza, Night Market, Opening Hours, Address & Stalls, Chiang Mai

Located across from Chiang Mai University, the market is open daily from 6pm onwards. It’s popularly known as a student’s market, so you can be sure that the goods sold here are relatively cheap. As soon as the stalls open, the seats fill up quickly with hungry students from the university, as well as locals. Spending some time here is a good local experience since you get to mingle with residents and observe them in their element.

Just like other markets found in Thailand, food plays an important role here. There are countless Thai, as well as other Korean and Japanese vendors offering delicious, homemade food at cheap prices. Thais love their dessert, so it’s no surprise to find several vendors inviting you to indulge your sweet tooth. From regular ice cream to floss candy and more, you’ll find it here.

However, that’s not all that there is to this market. Wander through the maze of stalls to find affordable clothing, and don’t forget to haggle. The clothes here also cater to larger, western sizes, so it’s easy to find something that will fit. You can even have a manicure and a pedicure, as well as a massage and tattoos; all for cheap prices here.

If you’d like a change of pace from the very crowded, more popular markets in Chiang Mai, you’ll enjoy spending your evenings here. Because of its location away from the old city, there are fewer tourists here, which is good news for those travelling with children, since they will have more space to safely roam around.

Bicycle, motorbike, and car parking is available here too.
